The RF 24-105 F2.8's tripod ring is among Canon's best RF implementations. This ring is solidly constructed, and the rotation and lock knob are very smooth. There are no 90° click stops, but small groves on the collar align with a small grove on top of the lens barrel to aid locking in these often-useful positions. While it's a tad pricey for a zoom lens, the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is a great performer that pairs perfectly with the EOS R. It offers the stabilisation (five stops of it) that the body lacks and the new Control ring is a revelation.

Introduction. The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 USM L IS is a 4.4x standard zoom lens for Canon full format (and APS-C) DSLRs. It's often sold as part of a "kit" with the EOS 5D (II) although you shouldn't mistake this lens with the average el-cheapo kit lenses which are common in the APS-C DSLR world.

We tested the Canon RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM on the Canon EOS R. Paired with 30 MP sensor, the lens achieved a DXOMARK score of 23. It’s a sharp lens generally, especially at the longer focal lengths, though zooms are anything but consistent throughout their focal range.

Performance-wise, the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM has very few flaws. It might just be the single most consistent 24-105mm lens on the market. The lens features very good sharpness at f/4 and excellent sharpness at all focal lengths between f/5.6 and f/11. Even in the corners, you’ll capture surprisingly sharp images for a zoom lens of this range.

This price is quite welcome to see, considering that this is a “must-have” lens for many photographers starting the R mirrorless system. Still, Canon has left room in their lineup for a cheaper kit zoom to be released eventually. Canon EOS R + RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM @ 56mm, ISO 100, 1/100, f/14.0.

However, the RF24-105/4L in combination with the R has been a real joy to take with me just about anywhere. It gives a surprising combination of sharpness across the frame, extraordinarily fast AF anywhere (with the help of the R), great contrast and saturation, pleasing bokeh and industry best IS.

The EFS 15-85mm had shown me I could manage with an F4 lens and the wide zoom range was useful. The RF 24-240mm was tempting but the extra barrel length was less welcome for general use. The RF 24-105 F4 is living up to expectations with some fine shots matching the quality of the 100mm macro but with the extra flexibility of the zoom. Look no further than the Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM. Originally released in 2018 Looking for an incredibly versatile lens to add to your photography kit? Look no further than the Canon RF G0cDg4.
